Greek Vase Tour

Launch project: www.kam.uiuc.edu/explore/greekKama

Krannert Art Museum's Greek Vase Tour was a project for a 1996 University of Illinois class called "Information Organization and Access," taught by Cheryl Knott Malone. The tour was conceived, written, and formatted by Douglas A. Litts, Graduate Student in the School of Library and Information Sciences. It may be one of the earliest examples of museum education on the web.

"An in-depth tour of thirteen vases from Krannert Art Museum's ancient Athenian Greek vase collection. Visitors can take a quick tour examining treasures from the sixth and fifth century B.C. or can examine the vases and their artists with more detail. The tour includes extensive bibliographies for continuing research."

Note: For archival purposes, the Greek Vase Tour has been restored to work in its 1996 state; the only changes made were to fix broken and absolute links. The formatting is indicative of early web design: the author employs much usage of hypertext and links, highlighting the non-linearity capabilities of research projects presented on the web. Short, minimal pages and smaller images were also necessitated by slow bit-transfer rates (people used dialup modems) and smaller, lower resolution computer screens.
