Ex-votos

Church sites.
Ex-votos are typically offered in churches. These photographs show votive paintings offered singly, displayed in a museumlike fashion, and offered in a shrine. The basilica of the Virgin of San Juan de los Lagos (in Jalisco) is the second largest pilgrimage site to the Virgin in Mexico (after Guadalupe). To the right of the sanctuary is a room in which are hung some of the prolific offerings of paintings and other votive objects made by the faithful to the Virgin.

Iglesias.
Los ex-votos son típicamente ofrecidos en las iglesias. Estas fotografías muestran pinturas votivas ofrecidas individualmente y ofrecidas en un santuario. La basílica de la Virgen de San Juan de los Lagos en Jalisco es el segundo lugar más popular de peregrinación a la Virgen en México (segundo sólo al de la Virgen de Guadalupe). A la derecha, al interior del santuario, existe un cuarto en el que se cuelgan algunas de las prolíferas ofrendas de pinturas y otros objetos votivos hechos por los devotos de la Virgen.
