Krannert Art Museum Publications Win Prestigious
Design Awards

Krannert Art Museum has recently been recognized by the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA), Print Magazine, and International Design (I.D.) Magazine as a leader in design excellence for two 2008 publications: Krannert Art Museum: Selected Works and the exhibition catalog for Blown Away.

Krannert Art Museum: Selected Works
Designer: Studio Blue (Chicago)

AIGA's 50 Books/50 Covers design competition is
one of the most venerable in the graphic design field, aiming to identify the 50 best-designed
books and book covers produced each year.
Jurors Jane Brown (Distributed Art Publishers,
Los Angeles), Rodrigo Corral (Rodrigo Corral
Design, New York), Vanessa Eckstein (Bløk
Design, Mexico City), Franc Nunoo Quarcoo (University of Maryland, Baltimore County, Baltimore), and Brett Yasko (Pittsburgh, PA)
chose Krannert Art Museum: Selected Works as
an example of design excellence in the category
of "image-driven books," which includes architecture, design, and photography titles.

As a recipient of this award, Krannert Art Museum: Selected Works becomes part of the online AIGA Design Archives, will be exhibited at the AIGA National Design Center in New York and offered as a travelling exhibition, and will be physically archived in both the AIGA Design Archives at the Denver Art Museum and the Rare Books and Manuscript Collection at Columbia University, New York.

Print Magazine, a bimonthly magazine dedicated to visual culture and design, has also recently recognized the bold design of Krannert Art Museum: Selected Works, selecting the publication to appear in its 2009 Regional Design Annual.

Blown Away
Designer: Studio Blue (Chicago)

For over 50 years I.D. Magazine has     chosen and catalogued the year's best     design in its Annual Design Review,     searching out items that astonish with their     beauty, utility, and innovation. This year,     jurors Barbara Blauber (Heavy Meta Design),     Steff Geissbuhler (C&G Partners), and     Matthias Ernstberger (Timko & Klick)     awarded Krannert Art Museum's exhibition     catalog Blown Away an honorable mention     in the "Graphics" category. I.D. Magazine     additionally features Blown Away in its     current print issue, praising the publication for capturing "the intense physicality of its subject" and providing, as Glauber notes, "real moments of genius."

All competition winners, including Blown Away, are currently on exhibition at the Material ConneXion showroom in New York City through August 28, 2009.
