Museum—School Collaborations

Krannert Art Museum is interested in developing programs with schools, teachers, and other community partners that encourage students to have deeper museum experiences. A few examples are listed below.

If you would like to discuss how to bring these programs to your organization or if you have other ideas to suggest, please contact Anne by calling 217.244.0619 or emailing asautman@illinois.edu.

KAM—WAM

Krannert Art Museum—Week at the Museum

Krannert Art Museum and Wiley Elementary School have partnered to create an in-depth museum experience for two fifth grade classrooms. The Wiley fifth graders will spend an entire school week in the fall at the museum. As the students explore the museum gallery-by-gallery, they will get to know the European portraits, the ancient Egyptian carvings, and the amazing Pre-Columbian pottery, all while integrating the fine arts with language arts, social studies, and even math and science. This arts immersion project will end with a reception for family and friends where the students, now feeling completely at home at Krannert Art Museum, will share their favorite works of art as well as their own creations inspired by this museum adventure. KAM–WAM is a pilot program that may be repeated as well as expanded to other schools.

Art Speak Teen Program

Krannert Art Museum has offered Art Speak at Rantoul Township High School (RTHS) since 2006. Each year, twelve RTHS high school student interns experience the multifaceted, multi-culturally oriented offerings at KAM—including its collections, programs, and community events. Interns attend selected KAM events, study artwork in the museum's galleries, staff activity tables, teach children about art, express themselves creatively using different art forms, and document their experiences.

Krannert Art Museum would like to bring the Art Speak Teen Program to your high school. Contact Anne at 217-244-0619 or asautman@illinois.edu for more information.
